With a professional musician as a father, 13 year old Daniel B. has had music all around him from before birth to the present.
Technically, he started composing around the ages of 3 or 4... He created various simplistic piano solos (all in his favorite key of A minor). In Kindergarten, he entered one of his compositions (recorded on a cassette tape) in a competition with schools participating nationwide, which he won for his state and reached the national level. A few years later, he meshed his piano solos together and won 2nd place a local talent competition -- all ages.
Daniel tried out composing outside of the piano, with software (Finale NotePad), in the 6th grade while participating in the Middle School string orchestra program playing the cello. His first composition was a one-page cello duet. He continued composing, the ensembles growing per composition. He started familiarizing himself with various instruments and analyzing a number of classical/orchestral compositions, looking for orchestration techniques to add to his own compositions. When it became that most of his time was spent purely composing, he saved up and purchased the full Sibelius notation program with Garritan Personal Orchestra.
Now currently attending the 8th grade at the middle school, a lot of his free time is spent analyzing, composing, arranging and orchestrating.
